The fraud, which is estimated to be worth over Ksh500 million ($4 million), was carried out by individuals using fake SIM card numbers to apply for Safaricom's Fuliza loans. This has caused a significant setback for the company and has prompted investigators to launch an inquiry into the matter.
Wicrypt, a Nigerian platform that allows users to earn income by sharing their Wi-Fi connection through either Wicrypt routers or mobile phones has emerged as a winner in the LEAP23 Competition, the Into New Worlds Award category, along with a grant of $150,000. Out of thousands of applicants, Wicrypt was one of the 12 companies selected to present in the final round of the competition and emerged as the winner taking home a grant of $150,000.
